Your guide to Memory Pairs

Start Memory Pairs by looking at the playing area and its controls. Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Check the rule that explains your first action. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Give this approach a try

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Make the next step deliberately.

Your objective

Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

The steps to play

  1. Turn over any face-down card.
  2. Choose a second card. Equal symbols stay visible.
  3. Unequal cards turn back after a short pause.
  4. Continue until every pair is visible.

Controls

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

Put the rules into context

Seeing a star at the top left and another star in the bottom row gives you a matching pair on a later turn. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Consider the next action carefully.

Avoid this misunderstanding

You cannot turn a third card while a mismatched pair is still being shown. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal.
