Hitori: learn through an example

Hitori gives you a focused activity to play in your browser. Shade repeated numbers while keeping black cells separated and all white cells connected. Use the example below to understand a decision. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Play twelve 5×5 puzzles. Any shaded starting cells remain fixed.

Take a closer look while playing

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Use the example to check your reasoning.

Your objective

  3. Black cells cannot share an edge.
  4. Check puzzle verifies duplicates and connectivity.

Try this example

Two identical unshaded numbers in one row cannot both remain. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Take a moment to compare.

Check this before moving on

Removing every duplicate can disconnect white cells. Check the rule before repeating the action. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
